What it is
Genuine five-mukhi Rudraksha beads — 108 of them, plus the guru bead — hand-knotted on cotton with a tassel. This is a working mala, made for japa: mantra, breath and count, one bead at a time.
The knotting between beads is deliberate. It keeps the beads from grinding against one another, gives the thumb something to rest on, and means a broken thread loses one bead rather than all of them.
Who it suits
- Anyone with a daily mantra practice, or beginning one.
- Someone who has been counting on their fingers and is ready for the discipline of a mala.
- People drawn to Shiva practice, for whom rudraksha is the traditional bead.
- A student or a teacher — five-mukhi is ruled by Jupiter, the graha of learning.
How it is used
Hold the mala in the right hand, draped over the middle finger, and move it with the thumb — one bead per repetition. The index finger traditionally does not touch the beads. When you reach the guru bead, do not cross it: turn the mala and go back the way you came.
Keep it wrapped when not in use, in a cloth bag or a small box, rather than loose in a drawer. A japa mala is usually kept for practice alone rather than worn as jewellery, though wearing it is not forbidden.
What it does not do
- It is not a medicine. It does not treat, cure or prevent any physical or mental illness, and it must never replace your doctor's advice or prescribed treatment.
- It does not perform the practice for you. A mala counts; it does not chant.
- It does not guarantee money, a job, a marriage or an examination result. Nobody can promise you that, and we will not.
- It does not need to be blessed again by anyone else. It leaves here energised, and beyond that the practice is what keeps it alive.
Care & authenticity
Genuine five-mukhi Rudraksha, hand-knotted with a cotton tassel and energised with mantra before dispatch. Rudraksha is a seed, not a stone: expect small differences in size, colour and surface between beads. Perfectly matched beads are usually a sign of moulded imitations.
Keep it away from hot water, chemical soap and swimming pools. If a bead looks dry, a very light touch of coconut oil restores it. Re-energise once a year — ask us and we will guide you through it.
