The Planets of Vedic Astrology

Nine grahas move through every chart — two luminaries, five planets and two shadow nodes. Meet each one: what it signifies, how it feels when strong or strained, its dasha years and its classic remedies.

Frequently asked questions

The Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn, plus the two lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu — together the Navagraha. Each governs particular areas of life, and each rules a period (dasha) in the Vimshottari timeline.
It differs for every chart: the Lagna lord, the Moon, and the planet whose dasha is running are usually the loudest voices. These guides give each graha's general nature; a personal reading shows which ones are shaping your years right now.
They are the Moon's nodes — mathematical points, not bodies — treated in Jyotish as shadow planets (chhaya grahas) because of their real and often decisive influence in the chart.
